Hospital Coverage:
Covers things such as inpatient hospital stays, home health care, and certain skilled nursing facility care.
Is part A free?
Yes - usually part A is free if you have paid into Medicare taxes over a period of time. If it is not free, you can purchase it for a monthly fee.

Medical Coverage:
This covers items such as: doctors visits, outpatient services, X-rays, labs, and preventive screenings.
If you have private insurance through a current job, you can delay your enrollment in Part B without penalty.
You will need to sign to sign up for Part B within 8 months after you stop working.
Together, Part A and Part B are called “Original Medicare”

Medicare Advantage
This is a privately offered medicare plan from various insurance companies and not government sponsored.
These typically offer the same coverages as the Original Medicare, but the cost structure will vary greatly.

Prescription Drugs
Prescription drug plans are only offered through private insurance companies, but is typically purchased as a critical component to the Original Medicare.
Part B may cover some certain prescriptions but it is very limited
Some Medicare Advantage plans will include this coverage
What is Medicare Supplement (Medigap)?
Medicare Supplement insurance helps fill in the gaps in the Original Medicare and is sold by private insurance companies. Medigap policies will help pay for things such as:
Coinsurance
Copayments
Deductibles
Medicare care when you travel outside the U.S.

In order to purchase a Medicare Supplement, you must have Part A and Part B
Supplement policies only cover one person, so if you and a spouse both want policies, you would need to purchase two separate policies.
They are purchased from private insurance companies
Supplement plans offered between private companies are government regulated, thus the coverages are the same, however, the cost will vary greatly - that is what it’s important to shop for the best rate!
Once you have a Medicare Supplement, your policy is guaranteed to renew regardless of health, as long as you pay your premium.
